Denzel Washington, and Brooks Army Medical Center

Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims. There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses.

The Fisher House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his checkbook out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot.

The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question is, why do: Brad Pitt, Madonna, Tom Cruise and other Hollywood fluff make front page news with their ridiculous antics and Denzel Washington's Patriotism doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San Antonio. Thank you Denzel! GOD bless you!

A true American and friend to all in uniform!

Sorry to be the one to let you know this, but this whole Denzel thing is not true. It's been floating around the internet since at least 2004. Here's the SNOPES link so you can see what parts are actually true:

That's very admirable and says a lot about Denzel's character.

Thanks for this wonderful story. another example of our tilted and misguided media.

Wow, that was so generous of him. There are few people who do good deeds and don't need popularity. That's a real heroism. Most of the time, it feels great to help those in needs without being put on front page of any newspapers. That's what I would do..Too bad, I can't help out..

You go Denzel!!..I always loved him, so humble and down to earth.

This is My life..

just dropped EC and found your entry very interesting and so touching.

Halahblue's link to Snopes shows that there is a bit of exaggeration here. Nevertheless, it is mostly true, and Denzel is a fine American. As Sharky says, a real hero.

Thank you everyone! I know Denzel is a real hero just for being there for our soldiers.

Thank you for the information about snopes, but I have found that snopes is not too reliable. So, I do not believe everything there. There have been some stories that have been found inaccurate on snopes, but I thank you.

If this story is untrue, about the money, it is ok, he was there for our soldiers and visiting the Fisher House. I have stayed at the Fisher house (Landstuhle Germany) during my husbands surgery. It was a true blessing.

They took good care of my kids and myself. So, this story really touched my heart!

Thank you Denzel!

GOD bless you all!
